On my first trip to Burkina Faso, literally the land of upright people, I see a country full of contrasts. Arid winter, where everything is just dust and withered bushes turned into ponds. Dozens of ethnic groups coexist, speaking over 50 different dialects. I also see the nomadic people who migrate as whole villages according to seasons to feed their livestock, while others, sedentary, cultivate the same place all year around by irrigating their land with water that accumulated during the rainy season. There are Muslims, Catholics, animists, those who practice and those who are more secular. And although each ethnic group has its own identity, a specific culture and while different generations live in each family home, I feel the deep respect towards each other at each of my visits to these villages scattered throughout the countryside. And I can say that it is the integrity that gathers all these peoples of the Burkina Faso, with traditions and cultures so opposed.
